Liverpool 1-3 Villa

With the exception of Martin O'Neill, I have always enjoyed watching Aston Villa. Unfortunately, I wouldn't say that they wholly deserved the win tonight because the score line was ridiculous. I have absofuckinglutely no idea how Liverpool didn't manage to get more goals with all those shots on target.

Torres' touch wasn't brilliant today. It's fair enough for some people like my dad to point that out but honestly, I think he played one of his toughest games tonight. Villa closed him down in numbers! Screw the first-touch, I'd be surprised if he got out unscathed! He'd have to possess godlike abilities to execute perfect touches every single time he gets the bloody ball!

I'm gonna put myself on the firing line here- as much as you hate to link any of the team's failure to Alonso's departure, it makes a whole lot of sense! I knew this was going to happen. We ended the previous season with so much hope but the spirit definitely came to a surprising low as we neared the start of 09/10. Furthermore, I don't think that the team kicked off the season with the right mentality. One of the team's key player leaves just two weeks before the season starts and we sign a replacement whom we won't even see for another two goddamned months! How was that prospect supposed to look good? In the long-term, yes. But not now! So stop frowning about this loss cause if you were one of those who talked of Aquilani's arrival and the benefits of Alonso's departure like a visionaire, you'd be eating your own words. To those who kept telling me to get over Alonso and that no one's bigger than the club, screw you cause I am of the opinion that he has made the club so much bigger.

Our players worked much harder than usual tonight. Insua is showing so much more potential than the much-defended Lucas whom I am honestly really sick of already. Fine, the lad's got potential and we've got to give him much credit for trying- but we're talking about a role that was filled by the likes of Momo, Xabi and Stevie! He's nowhere near them at the moment and how much time are we able to give him to find his way there? I am not making him a scapegoat for conceding and then scoring the own goal. It's just the sight of seeing our attacking players unnecessarily backtracking to bring the ball up that really made me miss the comfort it gives in having a midfield maestro. Benayoun did a good job in midfield today, but he could not control the tempo of the game. His speed even made the team look a little reckless at times.

Some people told me that when Alonso leaves, it gives new players and new formations a chance. Unfortunately, we don't seem to be playing with a new system. It is very clear that Lucas isn't an instant remedy or a player brilliant enough to inspire a whole new style of play. It's nothing special and also very transparent to the point that I can see how the team ended up with this formation. It's the same bloody system (sans a less effective Kuyt and a better Johnson) we played with WITHOUT Alonso last season! Remember the draws?! Oh yessss. The players we brought off the bench weren't going to change games either- Babel and Riera aside, they were those you'd retire a shoe-in victory.

I have faith in the club. No doubts about that. I'm just hoping that some fans would be more open-minded to the fact that the current results are reflective of what's going on with the club! The start of the season was going to be a pain till Aquilani attempts to provide the midfield with the creativity required. *fingers crossed* So stop your moaning and just hope for the best!
